Spring Renewal: Exploring the Niyamas
6 Tuesdays 9-10:15am Pacific on Zoom

March 3-April 7
As leaves unfurl and early flowers bloom, let’s dust off and explore some of the foundational principles of Yoga: the Niyamas! Beginning on the Full Moon, this 6-week series is an invitation to lean into the energy of early spring and invite a sense of renewal.

Expect a balanced practice with movement that builds strength, mobility, and warmth, as well as guided breathwork and some yoga philosophy. As we move out of winter hibernation, this is a potent time to reset and recommit to our (home) yoga practice.

Class is for strong beginners to long-time practitioners.
While each class builds on the last, drop-ins are always warmly welcomed to join.

My belief in the intelligence of our bodies guides my teaching. My classes are an invitation to slow down so we can listen to, feel, and connect with the wisdom that lives in our cells.

With an emphasis on inclusive, functional movement, my approach to yoga is inspired by my lifelong study and practice of contemporary dance and somatics as well as a decade of teaching yoga in prisons.

I aim to offer a deeply nourishing and well-rounded class with a combination of movement, breath work, and meditation—sometimes all happen at once!

We balance precision with curiosity, focus with creativity, and commitment with fun.

See you on the mat!

My approach

Dance

A dance photo from the archives

Dance is what brought me to the United States. My background as a professional dancer and choreographer helps me bring a unique perspective to my herbal practice.

I love weaving together plant wisdom with accessible embodiment practices, encouraging people to connect to their bodies with love, awareness, and acceptance.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, I completed conservatory dance training at the ArtEZ School of Dance. I received a Cultuurfonds Scholarship for the 50 most promising Dutch artists and scientists to complete an MFA in Modern Dance at the University of Utah. In 2018 the University’s College of Fine Arts awarded me a Distinguished Alumni Award.

For 20 years I performed internationally as well as presented my own work across the US. As a movement educator, I have offered dance and yoga classes at universities, festivals, and in prisons.

My work with Yoga Behind Bars from 2009-2021 has also profoundly shaped my approach to movement. I am a contributing editor and contributor to two Yoga Service Council books, Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System (2017) and Best Practices for Yoga with Survivors of Sexual Trauma (2019).

What people say

Rosa teaches with an open, joyous clarity. That’s how she helped me appreciate Contemporary Ballet. Before Rosa, I was afraid of Ballet, but she lead me, as a new comer to dance, to do three Pirouettes, to dance wildly to Kate Bush, and to cross pollinate movement forms.
