About Hildegard Botanicals
Hildegard Botanicals started in 2022 as part of Hildegard Ferments & Botanicals, the brewery and apothecary I owned with my husband.
We named our labor of love after medieval luminary Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179 CE). Hildegard was a multitalented Christian mystic who composed music, authored several theological and botanical texts, and founded convents.
She was also a devoted and renowned herbalist.
A central theme in her visions and work was the inextricable connection between the “green” health of the natural world and the health of human beings. She called this connection Viriditas, ‘greening power’ or life force.
We closed the brewery in December 2025 but the apothecary continues.
